How you want to be loved and how you love others may be different, but many of us have the same love language for both. But what is a love language? And how does it help your relationships, if it has the ability to help at all?
Dr. Gary Chapman first released his book, The Five Love Languages, to help people – and more specifically, couples – create deeper, more soulful connections with one another. One size certainly doesn’t fit all when it comes to love, after all.
Each zodiac sign has certain elemental traits and planetary rulers that can influence the way that their horoscope sign gives and receives love when coupled in a relationship.
You can’t expect the method that works for you to work just as well for your partner – and you actively try to learn what your partner’s love language is, too. Maybe your partner likes when you spend time with him and really listen to what he has to say, but you prefer physical touch.
You can’t expect a massage or a hug to be enough for him when he wants to vent, just like he shouldn’t think that letting you talk about your day will be enough to make you happy. Knowing what you need is one thing, but relationships should always be a two-way street.
Once you vocalize your needs (and your love language) to your partner, you need to be just as open to hearing what he needs from you. Listening might not be something you necessarily enjoy for yourself, but it makes him feel loved, so it’s important.
The five love languages are physical touch, receiving gifts, acts of service, quality time, and words of affirmation. Physical touch refers to any kind of, well, physical touch. Hand-holding, pats on the back, hugs, and even physical intimacy are all important parts of this love language.
It can be calming and healing for one, but it can also be one of the most direct ways to connect with someone. Receiving gifts is the love language for anyone who enjoys a tangible, material express of love.
These gifts don’t have to be expensive, but being given something sentimental and thoughtful, and having someone put effort into gifting you something special makes many people happy. Acts of service includes helping someone with their day-to-day responsibilities or even a simple task to make their life a little bit easier.
If you ever feel grateful and touched when someone offers to cook dinner or put the dishes away for you, acts of service may be your love language. Quality time is the love language for anyone who values spending time with the person they love over everything else.
Whether it’s something big like a planned vacation or just grabbing coffee together, the act of being with each other is what touches that person the most. Lastly, words of affirmation includes any verbal expressions of love, like telling someone that you love them or that you’re proud of them.
Whatever your zodiac sign’s love language is, it is an important part of how you connect with others, communicate more effectively, and strengthen your bond with the people you love.
