That kiss was way awkward.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life premiered its sixth season with a bit of a shocker. Whitney Thore and her long time BFF Buddy Bell engaged in a kiss. What, what? It seems the two pals wanted to test the waters, so to speak and see if they had any lingering romantic chemistry together. Fans of the show may remember that Whitney and Buddy dated in the past. Whitney's brother Hunter Thore believes that his sister and Buddy should just date. However, Buddy is dating and in love with a woman named Chelsea. The trailer for the new season features a scene where Whitney is telling Buddy how jealous she is that he's found love and she hasn't. Who is Buddy Bell?

1. Longtime BFF and roommate
Buddy and Whitney have been best friends and roommates for a long time. This has made fans react to the kiss as everyone assumed the two have always been platonic. In the trailer for the sixth season premiere of the hit TLC show, Whitney's friend Ashley admits that Whitney used to have a huge, undeniable crush on Buddy. Whitney has said nothing would ever happen between them, but that seems to have changed as we head into season six. Whitney told Newsweek that the kiss was weird, saying, “There really isn’t a word for it, to be honest. When I kiss Buddy it’s always weird. There’s always a weirdness from being friends with him. But I think that sometimes people have a chemistry that’s just there. I’m just gonna have to say, if I pick one word, I’m still gonna say weird."
2. He dated her close friend
Whitney set Buddy up with her close friend Heather Sykes and they dated for a bit but split up when he went to rehab for his drug addiction. Now, Heather is angry that Buddy has moved on from her while she is still heartbroken over their breakup. In the trailer, Heather says, “I was the one who suffered, and then he gets to move on and find happiness,” Heather says in the trailer. “You know what? F–k Buddy.”
3. His addiction issues
Buddy went to rehab in 2017 for his cocaine addiction. In the new season, he completes rehab and goes to stay in a halfway house. Whitney said, “Buddy is doing OK. There are a lot of ups and downs in the first year of recovery. You’ll see that and you’ll follow it throughout the entire season. It’s kinda difficult. One minute you think everything is fine and then the next minute it’s like you are totally worried. It’s hard to really trust if someone has it together or not. And of course, he was in a relationship at the beginning of the season. That was dramatic and traumatic! We love him and support him and we know that recovery is not an easy thing.”
4. The kiss
In the promo for the new season, Whitney says to Buddy,“I’m envious, you met Chelsea and just fell in love, and it seems like the simplest thing in the world. People find partners and they have babies and I’m not even anywhere close." The trailer then cuts to scenes of the two giving each other massages, dancing together and laying in bed. Whitney then asked Buddy if she could kiss him. Whitney also says in the trailer,“I don’t know, I just wish we were together."
5. His girlfriend
Buddy revealed to Whitney that he has a new girlfriend named Chelsea. He also said he would have married Chelsea "yesterday." He seems awfully smitten for someone literally just out of recovery. And if he wants to marry his current girlfriend, what is he doing kissing Whitney? I guess we all have to tune in to the latest season of My Big Fat Fabulous Life on TLC to see what happens!
