The 24-year-old beauty queen got engaged on December 17th, the very same night she competed in the Miss Universe pageant. She made the semi-finals in the annual pageant. She may not have won the Miss Universe crown, but she got a heck of a sparkler placed on her ring finger when her longtime boyfriend proposed.
She took to Instagram to post a collage of photos of the couple with the caption, “Wow. I knew Thailand would change my life, but what I did not realize was that it would also be where I begin a new lifelong journey. On Dec 17, not only did I represent my country on an international stage, but I also said yes to forever with my best friend. I cannot stop hugging on my fiancé, staring at my ring, and smiling thinking about it. It was the most perfect day with a breathtaking view, both of our families, some of our closest friends, and a celebratory dinner on the top of the world. Sarah Rose Summers was crowned Miss USA in May 2018. She qualified for the pageant after winning the title of Miss Nebraska. The proposal caps off a hectic week for Summers. She was on the wrong side of a media firestorm after comments she made on Instagram about non-English speaking contestants at the Miss Universe pageant. She was accused of racism and xenophobia when a video of her making those comments hit the internet. Reportedly, her comments were taken out of context and were not meant to sound as bad as they did. "In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize," Summers wrote in an apology.

She told Hollywood Life about the children she works with and how inspiring they are to her. “I work in children’s hospitals as the liaison between children and families and the medical team, and it’s my job to help alleviate stressors and anxiety in the children’s hospitals. I took a trip with Demi to Mexico City as Miss USA, with Smile Train — an organization that provides surgeries for children with cleft palate. My eyes were opened to what healthcare is like in other countries. We are so fortunate here in the US to have Child Life, where we’re focusing on the wholesome care. There are some many little strategies from my field that I could help implement into hospitals.”
