Jason Momoa has become a staple on lists of celebrity crushes. Since his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, the Hawaii native has gained the attention of millions around the world. He reprised his role on SNL on December 8 and is making waves again, literally, as Aquaman. The film is hitting theaters on December 21, so it will be a great holiday treat for anyone that likes superhero movies … and eye candy.

Momoa, though crushed on by many, is not a free man. Who is Momoa's wife? He has been in a relationship for over ten years. Momoa met his partner in 2005 when mutual friends introduced him to Lisa Bonet at a jazz club in Los Angeles.

The two have been together ever since. Even by Hollywood’s standards, however, their relationship is an unusual one. Though their marriage may seem strong, the two are a rather unexpected couple.

1. They have a twelve year age difference.

Momoa was born in 1979 while Bonet was born in 1967.

Bonet spent her formative childhood years in the 70s, before Momoa was born. She grew up in California and immediately went into acting. Other than her marriage to Momoa, Bonet's most notable relationship was that with musician Lenny Kravitz.

Momoa, in contrast, grew up in the 80s; while he was born in Hawaii, he grew up in Iowa. Originally, he was not going to go into acting: Momoa went to college in Iowa for marine biology. His role as Aquaman is, therefore, more than appropriate.

2. Momoa first saw Bonet on TV when he was 8.

Jason Momoa is married to his dream woman — yes, his actual dream woman — since childhood.

He revealed to James Corden on The Late Late Show that he’d fallen for Bonet since watching her on the Cosby show in the 80s.

“I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one.’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you.’”

He doesn’t have to stalk her anymore, as he has clinched what so many people with celebrity crushes only dream of while facing the reality that their chances are one in a million. Momoa is that one in a million.

3. They’ve been together for over a decade but didn’t get married until 2017.

The couple had their first child together in 2007 and their second shortly thereafter in 2008. The rumor was that the two wed in November 2007, two years after they met and four months after their Lola Iolani Momoa was born.

The two did not make it official, however, until a decade later, in October 2017. Sources revealed to US Weekly that they bought a marriage license one week before they exchanged vows.

Momoa was not happy with this publicity; he told Entertainment Tonight the next month, “I thought it would have stayed [under the wraps], but some a-hole leaked it and I will find you.”

Still, he brushed off the wedding. “You know what, I’ve been married to my wife for 12 years. It’s just a gathering of our families and celebrating our love.

4. Momoa is good pals with Bonet’s ex-husband.

The Momoas and Kravitzs are a good example of what nontraditional families can be. In December 2018, Momoa posted a photo on his Instagram that surprised many, depicting him and Kravitz standing beside one another wearing matching skull rings.

Momoa plugged the artist who made the rings, and paid tribute to his wife’s ex: “Mahalo lenny for coming to support me on @nbcsnl aloha j.”

Bonet and Kravitz eloped in 1987, a year after they met. Kravitz later reflected on their relationship in an appearance on Oprah’s Master Class in 2013 that they were far too young — Bonet was 19 at the time, Kravitz 23. “We were too young, we were babies. Our marriage was not based on reality.”

Regardless, the relationship had a tremendous effect on both of them. Entertainment Tonight described that Bonet spoke about her relationship with Kravitz to Vibe in 1999, a few years after their divorce: “My heart was blown open from just loving someone so much. It also deepened my desire to heal myself … I can honestly say it accelerated my growth and my desire to be here and to participate in a loving, conscious way on this planet.”

5. Momoa is Zoe Kravitz’s stepfather.

The name Kravitz is also familiar because it belongs to Zoe Kravitz, Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz’s only child together. She is closer in age to Momoa, as she was born in 1988, a year into her parent’s marriage.

The Big Little Lies star told the Rolling Stone that when she first met her future step-father, he joined her and her friends to drink beer while she was still in high school. He also has a nickname for her: Zozobear.
