Meet Jack Antonoff's Girlfriend Carlotta Kohl
She's a model/photographer/artist/sculptor.
Bleachers and Fun frontman Jack Antonoff has been dating model and artist Carlotta Kohl for most of this year. He got together with her after his split from Lena Dunham in January. Antonoff and Girls creator Dunham had been together for five years. Rumors that Antonoff was dating his longtime collaborator Lorde earlier this year, but he shot that down quickly. Soon after that denial, he was photographed with the beautiful blonde model at dinner in New York City. The 5'9" Kohl has modeled for Gucci, Gap, Jill Stuart, Miu Miu, Free People and Juicy Couture, among others. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, a new interview with Dunham came out in which she said: “I thought I was kind of proving weird girls can have love too. And now he’s dating somebody who looks regular and normal and like girls are supposed to look.” Who is Carlotta Kohl?
1. She's from Europe
Carlotta Kohl was born in Germany, raised in Paris, and currently lives in New York City. She is a model, photographer, painter and sculptor. She has her BFA from the School of Visual Arts. When asked whether she identifies more as a model or artist, she told Paper, “I would say it’s half and half. When people ask me what I do, I say I’m an artist. That’s always what I identify as. Modeling is a job. It’s what I do to pay my bills and support my art. There are times when the two are able to blend and that’s been exciting. I’m lucky to be working at a time where it’s encouraged and almost expected to do other things. The industry has changed a lot in that regard. You’re no longer cast based solely on appearance."
2. Her parents are in the fashion industry
Kohl is the daughter of a model and a photographer. She told Paper: “My parents were in the industry for a long time. I grew up seeing two different sides of the industry and how they came together to create something powerful. I got to see how both my parents brought their unique sensibilities to a photograph. Being so close to that world definitely shaped my interests subconsciously. I became aware of the power of photography and started taking photographs of my own at a young age. I ended up going to SVA and graduating with a BFA in photography. I didn’t necessarily think I would end up in fashion, but it’s been cool to bring my aesthetic and ethos to fashion shoots.”
3. Her besties are in the industry as well
Kohl hangs out with the elite of the fashion and entertainment industry. She counts Selena Gomez as a friend. But artist and curator Petra Collins, nail artist Madeline Poole, and model Paloma Elsesser are three of her very closest friends. Vogue once called Kohl's group of friends the "coolest girl squad in town."
4. She was named the model most likely to be unavoidable
In late 2017, Paper named Carlotta Kohl "most likely to be completely unavoidable," predicting she would become a household name in 2018. As the star of Juicy Couture's 2017 campaign, she's well on her way. When Paper asked her what inspires her right now, she said: "It makes me hopeful that more and more women are coming forward about their lived experiences that were for so long silenced and rejected. Their voices and stories are already and will continue to dismantle the systemic ills that have been been ingrained in and plagued this industry and others for all of history."
5. Her butt is famous
No, really. Her fuchsia tights covered butt graces the cover of the St. Vincent album Masseducation. Jack Antonoff was one of the producers of that album.
6. Does Lena still miss Jack?
In a recent essay for Domino, Lena revealed that their differences in home decorating aesthetic led to their breakup after five years. Recalling their final moments in the flat that he now owns he said to her, 'You can finally eat in bed without anyone getting mad at you.' The pair broke up in January 2018 and Jack moved on with Kohl; Lena remains single.
