Since 2013, Chris Murphy has served as a U.S. Senator from Connecticut and a member of the Democratic party. He was previously in the U.S. House of Representatives for Connecticut’s 5th congressional district, and also served on the Connecticut House of Representatives, Connecticut Senate, and Connecticut General Assembly. When he was elected, he was the youngest member of Congress until Tom Cotton was later elected.

Since becoming a Senator, Murphy’s viewpoints are straightforward: he supports the ACA, introduced legislation for mental health reform, is a leading voice for gun control (and even attended the March for Our Lives march this past spring), and is in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.

6. They are hands-on parents.

Both Cathy and Chris make sure to put their children first, despite his busy schedule in D.C. “We made a decision very early on that they were never going to take a back seat to the job and that we were going to structure our lives in a way that always put them first. It’s not easy. We’re a family that’s constantly on the go but I think we’ve structured it the right way,” he said.

But the family makes sure to spend weekends together back in Connecticut and are together for long breaks during the year. “Seeing now how Chris has so much just regular, everyday time with them convinced us it was the right decision,” Cathy confirmed.
