Why are the bad ones so attractive?
Bad boys, bad girls — sometimes they’re truly bad. Like Tom Hiddleston as Loki in the earlier Marvel Avengers films. The year 2012 was filled with images of Hiddleston and people thirsting in the comments.
Not that he’s not getting the same treatment now. But I think we can all agree there was a different, compelling aura to him when he was a villain.
Science can help lead to an answer. Narcissism has been proven to have a relationship with attractiveness: we tend to find severely self-absorbed people more attractive than those with an average opinion of themselves.
Narcissism is just one example of a dark personality trait. There are dozens more. In most cases, a group of these traits come together and manifest themselves in some sort of “dark side.”
This is not to say that people each have a good side and a bad side, or that one wins out over the other so people are either completely bad or completely good.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are fictional characters. Still, everyone has internal characteristics that aren’t so desirable in one sense, but can be in another.
There are some factors to thank for your dark side. One is your zodiac sign. It’s always nice to focus on the positive aspects of your zodiac sign … but the truth is, there are some not-so-nice things that come with every horoscope sign's personality.
Clearly, however, these things can work to your advantage. Sometimes. It’s best to focus on your more positive qualities and bettering yourself.
You should not, however, completely ignore your negatives. Acknowledge them, at the very least. With enough self-knowledge, you can use them to your advantage. Because sometimes, dark sides can be irresistible.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)
This zodiac sign can be bad to the bone with their impulsive, aggressive nature. They’re the type to get a fancy fast car or motorcycle. You’re visualizing it, right?
What’s most attractive about their dark side is their reckless, steadfast determination to get what they want, when they want it. They may use unsavory means, a la Machiavelli, to get it … but sometimes it can be excused.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
Like Aries, this sign is stubborn. They’re the bull of the zodiac for a reason. Their dark side, however, stems from their narcissism. Science has proved that vanity can be appealing to others, so maybe it’s not all that bad.
Taurus is also ruled by Venus, so they have a natural inclination towards beauty. Looking and feeling good helps them stay grounded. They can be magnetic that way.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
The negative stereotype assigned to Geminis is being two-faced. That’s not always the case, nor is that a sexy dark side.
Many that fall under this sign tend to be at least a little pretentious. They like obscure things: music, books, fashion trends. Sure, you might scoff if someone doesn’t get your reference … but that could drive the other person to look it up and later try to impress you.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers love to chat with close friends and family. When it comes to others outside their immediate circle, however, they’re closed-off and uncommunicative. It takes a guessing game to try and figure out what they’re thinking.
On the other hand, there’s almost nothing more compelling than mystery. It’s an element in all sorts of media that keeps us watching, reading, et cetera. Your tendency to isolate can be attractive, as long as you don’t completely shut others out all the time.
LEO (July 23-August 22)
It’s hard to think Leos have a dark side, as they’re ruled by the sun. They can be empowering, even overpowering at times. If they’re interested in someone, they will do anything and everything to win them over.
But this sign can be jealous. They can make a dramatic deal out of it, too. This is possibly a turn-off … but in many ways, the fact someone will openly show that kind of ardent desire can be very attractive too.
VIRGO (August 23-September 22)
Virgos are known for being hard-working. That’s how you get perfection. One could even say, “the devil works hard, but Virgos work harder.”
Perfection can come from an imperfect process. A Virgo might take risks in order to get a desired result. Is that such a bad thing? Maybe--but bad can be appealing, too.
LIBRA (September 23-October 22)
As a balancing force, Libras sometimes can feel left behind. They can be rather vain at times. They’ll wear an attention-grabbing look and use their charm to pull others in.
It’s okay to give this side of yourself the reins. It certainly works. You know best how to balance your dark side, and it shows. You’re also a hopeless romantic, so a compliment to your dark side is to let your romanticism roam free.
SCORPIO (October 23-November 21)
Once someone knows you’re a Scorpio, they assume you’re all dark side. Of course this has pros and cons. Overall, you’re mysterious. People think mystery is dark.
You are prone to secrecy: in its positive manifestation, you’re trustworthy. On the dark end of the spectrum, you keep people guessing. Scorpios are also open to change and transformation, as they’re ruled by Pluto. Others may be wary of this; still, they’ll be compelled to see what you do or become next.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21)
This sign is known for their adventurous spirit. It turns dark when they become reckless. They love taking risks, but unlike other signs, they usually don’t have a desired end to their risks. They’re merely in it for the experience, no strings attached.
A darker aspect of this sign is their search for truth. Sags are very honest, which is part of their quest. They will say things others might refrain from saying, which shows bravery, no matter how dark the truth may be.
CAPRICORN (December 22-January 19)
Capricorns are one of the most ambitious signs of the zodiac. They set a path for themselves and will not stop until they make it to the summit. Their paths usually are direct, morally as well.
Since they believe they have the moral high ground, however, Capricorns can be elitist. You have to have something special in order to be with a Capricorn. Proving yourself can be a fun game.
AQUARIUS (January 20-February 18)
Although this sign thrives in groups, as they are community-oriented, they are reluctant to show all their cards. They keep their feelings locked up. For someone that’s interested in an Aquarius, this is even more of a draw. What are they thinking?
They can also be a little standoffish, keeping their distance from others unless in a group setting, but still with a guard up. These all add to the attractive Aquarius mystery.
PISCES (February 19-March 20)
Pisces’ good side often overshadows their bad side. They’re very emotionally attuned to themselves and others. Their romanticism, however, can be dangerous.
People will flock to Pisces if they want a break from reality. The real world is overrated in this sign’s eyes, and are likely to escape from it more than they probably should. Others admire and desire this dark ability.
