Who Is In Migos? 10 Details About The Rappers Who Make Up The Rap Trio
The trio is gaining more and more fame these days.
Most probably know rapper Offset from his high profile relationship with fellow rapper Cardi B, and you've certainly heard music from the hip-hop trio that he's a member of — though who is in Migos may not be as well-known.
Migos is also composed of rappers Takeoff and Quavo. The trio, whose real names are Kiari Cephus (Offset), Quavious Marshall (Quavo), and Kirsnick Ball (Takeoff), started their group a very long time ago. However, 2013 was the year that the trio really hit it big with their debut single "Versace" and have recently been receiving more and more fame.
So who is Migos and what do we know about the three rappers in the trio? Here are some details about Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff and their hip-hop group Migos.
1. The members of Migos are all related to each other.
The trio are actually all related to each other in some capacity. Offset and Quavo are cousins and Takeoff is Quavo's nephew. Takeoff is also the youngest member of the group at 24 years old. Quavo is 27 and Offset is 26.
2. They started Migos when they were very young.
It was just called something different back then. Although the group's first hit wasn't until 2013, they actually started to make music when they were only in the seventh grade. They went by the name Polo Club, which they used until 2010.
3. Quavo used to be a football player.
Quavo is also a talented football player. He played when he was in high school. The rapper was a quarterback who set a record during his time playing the game. However, his former coach John Thompson revealed that Quavo's main passion had always been music. "You'd always hear him singing in the locker room," Thompson explained. "One time, I was talking to him about his grades and everything, and he said, 'Coach, I got you with the grades, but I just want to get out of here and make music.' He was adamant: He was going to be successful in the music industry."
4. They all grew up together.
Offset, Takeoff, and Quavo were all born in Lawrenceville, Georgia. When the trio started making music, they were all living in Quavo's mother's home. The rappers appear to still be close with her as Quavo and Takeoff bought her a house after Migos became successful. “She was really, really excited,” Quavo said. “She was crying for, like, the whole day.”
5. They were once all arrested.
In 2015, all three members of Migos were arrested for possession of drugs and possession of a firearm. However, Offset was the only one who actually spent time in jail. Takeoff and Quavo were both released on bail. This was due to the fact that Offset had already been convicted of a felony in the past. Although Offset went to jail, Migos continued to make music. This was actually the second time that the rapper had been in prison and also the second time that the Migos released an album while Offset was still in jail.
6. Quavo revealed that he had a crush on Nicki Minaj.
In a 2014 interview, the rapper disclosed that his celebrity crush was singer Nicki Minaj. "I feel like she hood. She look like she can control somebody," he says. "I don't like my girls chasing me and stuff like that. I like to be the dog."
7. They were involved in a feud with Chris Brown.
In 2017, things got heated between the Migos and Chris Brown at the BET Awards. The trio was reportedly involved in a quarrel with the singer at the after-party for the awards show. However, they all had some history before the dispute at the awards show had happened. Brown and Quavo were reportedly very close, having both a business and personal relationship until the rapper began seeing Brown's ex-girlfriend, Karreuche Tran. Brown had revealed that he felt "betrayed" by Quavo after that.
8. Donald Glover gave the Migos a shout out after his 2017 Golden Globe Awards win.
Actor Donald Glover thanked the trio in his acceptance speech after his show, Atlanta took home the award for best comedy series. Glover, who is also a rapper that goes by the stage name Childish Gambino, pointed out the group's song, Bad and Boujee in particular. "I’d like to thank the Migos — not for being on the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee," said Glover. "I think that they're the Beatles of this generation and they don't get a lot of respect, I think, outside of Atlanta," Glover said backstage. "Not that they don’t get respect, but there's a generation, sort of like the YouTube generation that I kind of came up with. There's a generation of kids that are growing up on something that's completely separate from a whole group of people."
The Migos responded to the actor's speech by thanking him on social media.
9. They have been accused of homophobia multiple times.
Earlier this year, Offset collaborated with another rapper YFN Lucci for the song Boss Life. However, some of the lyrics caused a stir among fans for implying homophobia. Offset was quickly lambasted on social media for the lyrics to the song.
However, the rapper responded with an apology through Instagram. “I didn’t write the line about gay people,” he wrote. “I have said before since these issues before that I got love for all people. My passion for fashion has lead me to a lot of gay people around me who I have mad respect for and we are very cool so I’m not in a place where I’m hating like that. When I wrote that I was thinking of words that could rhyme with the others (here, lear, solitaire, bear) and I saw this definition about her having a queer feeling she was being watched and it fit what I was thinking about a stalker creepy paparazzi situation. To me that ‘queer’ I don’t mean someone who’s gay. I mean lame people who film you, post it and stalk you. Lingo that means strange or odd.”
However, this wasn't the only time the trio was involved in this type of backlash. In a 2017 interview, the group was accused of making homophobic comments about another rapper, iLoveMakonnen, who had just come out to his fans. They eventually retracted their statements by implying that the remarks made were misunderstood and that they have friends who are gay.
10. Fans believe that Takeoff may become the Migos' most successful member.
Although he's probably the least talked-about member of the trio as of now, Takeoff has been the one on everyone's radars this year. In January 2018, the group released their third album and most of the praise surrounded Takeoff. The youngest member of Migos was lauded for his verses on the album, with some fans even jokingly dubbing him the "Beyonce" of the trio.
Takeoff also landed a solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 List, becoming the final member of the group to do so. His appearance as a featured artist on Huncho Jack's song Eye 2 Eye placed him at number 65 on the chart.
