Where Is Pablo Escobar's Daughter Now? New Details On Manuela Escobar
She was the apple of her father's eye.
Where Is Pablo Escobar's Daughter now? Manuela Escobar is the only daughter of the legendary drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. She was the apple of his eye. In fact, once, when the Escobar family was on the run from Colombian and American Drug Enforcement Agency authorities, they were living in a hideout in the Medellin mountainside. Manuela had hypothermia from the cold. Escobar did what any doting dad would do, he set $2 million in cash on fire to warm her up. Manuela was born on May 24, 1984 in Panama. She is the youngest child of Pablo and Maria Escobar. Where is she today?
1. No asylum
Manuela's life when her father was alive was dramatic. After his death it continued to be dramatic. When Pablo was killed, Manuela, her brother Juan Pablo, and her mother Maria fled Colombia. The Mafia and other drug dealers wanted Pablo's family killed. The Cali Cartel was demanding millions from the Escobars for reparations for Pablo's crimes against them. No country would give the Esobar's asylum after all of Pablo's crimes. Maria even petitioned the Vatican for help. It wasn't until 1995, two years after Pablo's death that Manuela, Juan Pablo and Maria made it to Mozambique, then Brazil, Ecuador, South Africa, Peru and finally Argentina, where they lived under an assumed name. Argentina only accepted them because their new identities hid the fact that they were the family of Pablo Escobar.
2. Homeschooled
While living in Argentina, Manuela and her family were succeeding with their new identities. Manuela was in school. Her mother became a successful real estate agent. Then, in 1999, their identities were revealed and a money laundering lawsuit was brought against them. The family was acquitted; there just wasn't any evidence against them. However, Manuela was frightened by the event and refused to go to school. Her mother homeschooled her from that point on.
3. No record
Manuela is the only member of Pablo Escobar's family to never be accused of a crime. She was just nine years old when he died. She has maintained a very private life and low profile since then.
4. Cut all ties
Manuela's brother has spoken to the media a number of times over the years but Manuela has remained silent. She reportedly changed her name to Juana Manuela Marroquin Santos. She avoids the media. She is not active on social media. She cut all ties to her native country.
5. Where is she now?
Since 1999, Manuela has reportedly suffered from severe depression. Her brother has said that she has attempted to commit suicide. She studied public relations. She reportedly lives with her brother and his wife, who take care of her when her depression surfaces.
