Are Melanie And Devar From 90-Day Fiancé Still Together?
He was a lifeguard in Jamaica and she was a nurse on vacation. Did they find lasting love?
Are Melanie and Devar from 90-Day fiancé still together? Back in 2015, TLC's 90 Day Fiancé introduced us to Melanie and Devar. The couple had applied for a K-1 visa so that Devar could move to the US to marry Melanie after they met and fell in love while she was on vacation. He was a lifeguard at the resort she was visiting and the two of them hit it off in a big way.
Once Devar arrived in the United States, the couple faced a series of challenges on their way to the altar. Did they finally get married? And are they still together today? Read on to find out.
1. Vacation romance
Melanie begins the show by explaining that the two of them met while she was in Jamaica on vacation. He was lifeguarding at the resort where she was staying and he immediately caught her eye. They stayed in touch even after the vacation ended with Melanie making multiple visits to Jamaica to see him, and they got engaged after only 20 days together.
2. Family ties
The first big hurdle for the couple to overcome is making sure Devar get along with Melanie's son. She makes it very clear that her child is a top priority and Devar says he's on board with that. Once he moves in, he walks the walk as well as talks the talk, learning about baseball for the sake of the boy and taking lots of time to play with him and get to know him.
3. In-laws
While Melanie's son may be eager to get along with his soon-to-be-stepdad, her sisters feel very differently. Older sister Bev is concerned that Devar is only in the relationship for the green card and questions how much money Melanie has already spent on visits to Jamaica and other expenses to keep the flame burning.
4. Devar's mother
It turns out Devar has family in the US already. His mother left when he was young and moved to Maryland. Melanie and Devar make a visit to see her. Both are apprehensive about how Devar's mother will respond to them as an interracial couple. However, the meeting goes smoothly and they leave on good terms.
5. Money talk
In a candid conversation with Melanie's family, Devar announces once he starts working, he plans to send money back to help his family in Jamaica. While Melanie's sisters are appalled by this, Devar and Melanie talk it over and she comes to understand his sense of responsibility to his family.
6. Wedding bells
Despite some fairly typical — and reasonable — pre-marital conversations about finances and family, the couple gets married in a beautiful ceremony with friends and family and Devar starts eagerly talking about having children together.
7. Happily Ever After
The TLC cameras caught back up with Devar and Melanie after their wedding for 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. The couple has settled into married life and is planning a visit back to Jamaica to see Devar's family. But Melanie's sister is still suspicious of Devar's motives and scolds Melanie for the money she's spent on their relationship so far.
8. Get a Job
In Jamaica, Devar's family welcomes Melanie warmly but Melanie is a bit put-off by one of Devar's sisters who isn't working, although she could. The couple squabbles about how responsible they should be for supporting someone who could support herself.
9. Prank call
Once they get home, Devar finally receives his green card. They decide to celebrate by playing a prank on Melanie's ever-skeptical sister Bev. Melanie calls her and says Devar got his green card and immediately vanished with their entire savings account. Bev goes off about how she never trusted him, only to find out she's been punked.
10. What now?
In 2017, Melanie and Devar let the world know they were expecting their first child together. TLC picked their story back up for 90 Day Fiancé: What Now? and in last week's premiere, we saw them adjusting to life with a newborn. Even Bev seemed more at ease with their relationship.
What will happen next with this couple? Watch them to find out.
