Who Is Garrett Yrigoyen's Ex-Wife? New Details About Kayla Cunningham
He's got some skeletons in his closet.
On this week's episode of The Bachelorette, front runner for Becca's heart Garrett Yrigoyen dropped a bombsell. The 29-year-old revealed he'd been married before during his one-on-one date in Utah with Becca Kufrin. He had some harsh things to say about his ex-wife but as it turns out, there are two sides to the story and Garrett may be spinning it so that he comes out looking like the good guy. Hmmmm. Who is Who Is Garrett Yrigoyen's ex-wife and what's the real story behind their split?
1. Married in September 2015
Garrett married Kayla Cunningham on September 19, 2015 in Newcastle, California. Two months later, Garrett packed up his belongings and left. Six months after they were married he filed for a divorce. Their divorce was finalized in March 2016. But why? It turns out that is a very good question.
2. Garrett's claims
Garrett told Becca that he'd fallen madly in love with a woman he thought was adventurous but it turned out he'd been wronged in his brief marriage. He accused his ex-wife of being emotionally abusive and of driving a wedge between him and his family and friends.
3. Kayla's friends have a different story.
A source claiming to be close to Kayla Cunningham said it was Garrett who walked out of the marriage, which blindsided Kayla and left her broken-hearted. Not long after Garrett and Kayla were married, Garrett started acting cold and disrespectful to Kayla and her family. A week after he walked out, he told Kayla he wanted half of everything she had.
The couple battled it out in the courts and Kayla ended up having to give Garrett money. The whole thing was so quick — Kayla's family spent thousands on the wedding and just weeks later he wanted out? They felt like they were scammed, according to the source. They just want Becca to be careful because Garrett only seems like a nice guy at first, and then he changes.
4. Did Garrett and Kayla rush into marriage?
OK, so maybe Garrett and his ex took a bold leap after knowing each other a short time? Nope. The former couple dated for a year and a half before getting engaged. They were engaged for a year. So we have to ask again: What made Garrett bail on his commitment just two months after saying "I do"?
5. Garrett's friend weighs in.
On Twitter, a user named Libby Lopez weighed in on Garrett's brief marriage, saying:"Hey @RealitySteve — I've been Garrett Yrigoyen's friend for 8 years and I don't even know why he and his wife split. Lol."
6. Becca forgave him.
This isn't the first controversy surrounding Garrett. Earlier this season it was revealed he had liked racist and offensive posts including one that called the Parkland shooting survivors 'crisis actors'. He apologized for that. Becca forgave him then, just as she lapped up his explanation that he had just been trying to make a bad relationship work.
7. What's up with this crop of bachelors?
Are this year's batch of bachelors worse than usual? Lincoln Adim is a sex offender who poops on the floor. Garrett is coming across as racist, transphobic, and flaky. Jordan is rocking the Zoolander blue steel gaze. And then there's Leo. He did a soft-core porn movie.
