What Happened To Kyron Horman? The Sad, Unsolved Disappearance Of 7-Year-Old And The Cryptic Message His Mother Just Posted On Facebook
He has been missing since 2010.
On June 4, 2010, the 7-year-old boy from Portland, Oregon, disappeared from his elementary school. The last person to see Kyron alive was his stepmother, Terri Horman, who claimed she took him to school for a science fair. She noticed he was missing later that afternoon when he wasn't on his school bus.
Though she's never been officially named as a suspect, she's remained a "person of interest" in the case that has long been unsolved.
Terri, who now goes by Terri Lynn Moulton, has always denied having any involvement in Kyron's disappearance. However, Kryon's mother, Desiree Young, suspects that she had something to do with it.
"Yeah, I believe that she did something that day," Young said. "She still hasn't revealed all of the true things that happened on June fourth."
What happened to Kyron Horman, who hasn't been seen in nearly 10 years?
In 2016, Terri was arrested after she stole a gun from her roommate. Later that year, she was arrested again for driving a stolen car. Prior to her arrests, her last public appearance was on Dr. Phil that same year.
"Everything that's been happening is just what we already know about her true nature. And that she's a criminal." Desiree said, "And I think that when she goes out there and grants interviews with Dr. Phil and continues to lie and not give us anything of any value it is somewhat frustrating because we're just still here dealing with the aftermath. Everyday living without answers and living without Kyron."
On the anniversary of Kyron's disappearance in 2018, Desiree posted a cryptic message to Facebook that suggested there was a big update in her son's case:
"Now 8 years later we are still asking those same questions. How in the world can we still be here? Well not if I have anything to do about this. Stay tuned something big is coming I promise you. Terri isn’t going to get away with staying silent about where Kyron is, and not have to answer for it."
Court records revealed that Terri remarried last year after divorcing Kyron's father, Kaine Horman. Their marriage ended shortly after the 7-year-old went missing and a restraining order was placed on Terri. She was also involved in a 1990 murder-for-hire plot, which is still under investigation, but has not been charged.
In 2017, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office was conducting ground searches and new computer evidence in Kyron's case, but he still has yet to be found.
In June 2019, Kyron's mom reflected on his disappearance over nine years ago. And in November 2019, Kyron's mom gave an update on her son's disappearance, saying, “I can tell you that there have been recent searches in the last several months. And we have been able to narrow down areas that we're looking.”
Young revealed that the area for the search has been reduced to 100 acres, but could not get any more detailed than that about it.
In February 2020, it was reported that human remains were found in a wooded area near the town of Aloha, Oregon. However, the Medical Examiner's Office determined that it belonged to an adult and weren't Horman's.
Something good, however, has come out of this tragic disappearance. In January 2020, Horman's father, Kaine, was giving his support to the family of another missing person. Allyson Watterson went missing in December 2019. The 20-year-old had been hiking in the North Plains when she disappeared.
Watterson's mother, Misty, opened up about how she's been receiving emotional support from Horman's father since her daughter's disappearance. She said, “Kaine is a friend of mine now. We obviously met through these terrible circumstances. But he has helped me through the emotional side of things and kinda where to go, how to proceed.”
If you have information about Horman's disappearance, please call 911 or the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office at 503-823-3333.
