15 Super-Awkward Details About Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Wedding And Relationship
Here's all the weird stuff you need to know before their May wedding...
We all want to believe in fairytales, and watching royal romances seem to be the closest any of us will get. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and relationship is no exception. And when is the royal wedding? Soon! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are to be wed on May 19, 2018 at Windsor Castle in England.
Many of us watched Prince Harry grow up from a boy to a man, and now that he’s found true love, we want to believe it's as chaste and pure as a Disney movie. Right? ...Wrong.
Sadly, we don’t live in a fairy tale world, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and relationship isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. The press, politics, and family drama sure has the potential to put a damper on their pending wedding bells. Here’s the lowdown on their royal relationship.
1. Meghan Markle was dating someone else when they met.
Markle and celebrity chef, Cory Vitello, ended their two-year relationship the same month Prince Harry and Markle met. When you know it’s right, you just know, but this is a bit of shaky ground on which to begin a relationship.
2. She quit her job for him.
While sources say she was planning on leaving Suits before the wedding bells began ringing in her ears, we’re still sad she’s leaving her job for a guy — prince or no prince. On the bright side, she wants to continue her philanthropy endeavors, but on the down side, we don’t get to watch her on TV anymore.
3. She shut down The Tig, her lifestyle site, too.
Sources say it was a full-time job and she wanted to focus on other things, but first her career and now her website? It wouldn’t be the first time a woman has lost sight of herself in a relationship and hopefully she’ll find new ways to express herself after she’s a princess.
4. They want to have kids ASAP.
Royal correspondent, Katie Nicholl, has said Prince Harry wants to have kids “pretty soon after the royal wedding.” Nothing wrong with starting a family, but maybe let Markle get used to being a princess first before popping out kids.
5. Markle’s family drama may cause problems at the wedding.
Prince Harry told a BBC interviewer that his family seems to be “the family she’s never had,” which left her family reeling and confused, commenting that she has a big, loving family. The wedding is only a few months away and we’re wondering if the drama will make an appearance there, too.
6. Meghan’s half-sister is trying to cash in on their relationship.
Meghan's half sister, Samantha, is reportedly writing a tell-all book on the future almost-princess. An inside source says the couple has no intention to acknowledge the book or any other attention hogging behavior. Maybe it’ll be a wedding gift for the newlyweds?
7. Lifetime is making a movie about the couple.
Before they’re even married — and despite Harry’s pleas for the media to mind their own business — Hollywood won’t leave them alone.
There’s no premiere date for the movie that will chronicle their relationship as well as, ironically, the media attention following their engagement. Surely Harry’s past experience with the paparazzi and media has soured his opinion of the industry anyway.
8. The relationship ruined Markle’s chances of being a Bond girl.
She was on a short list of actresses being considered, but once her and Harry’s relationship became public “they assumed she was out of the running.” Her site, her career, and now the chance to be an iconic Bond girl? Prince Harry must be a catch for a talented woman to give up all this.
9. The engagement itself was pretty controversial.
Markle is a biracial, American divorcee, the first to marry into the royal family in over 80 years. Luckily, it seems like the royal family has warmed up to her and spoken out against the press and individuals who want to be petty about something so irrelevant.
10. The press was hounding Markle so much that Prince Harry had to release a statement asking the press to back off.
The worst part is this was the first public announcement Harry had to make about Meghan. Talk about awful timing. Sadly, this may be the price you have to pay to be a princess.
11. They got engaged after dating for only a year and a half.
This followed quite a whirlwind of events like her meeting the royal family, including Prince William and Duchess Kate so soon and also moving across the pond to live closer to her beau. There’s no doubting these two knew what they wanted — and wanted it fast.
12. There's an awkward Instagram image floating around.
Markle posted a picture to her Instagram account of two bananas spooning with the caption “sleep tight.” This was before the relationship was super-public leaving everyone going, “Um... what?” We all know that one friend who vaguebooks like crazy — was Meghan that friend before she shut down her Instagram?
13. Meghan announced a new clothing line just days after they announced their engagement.
It’s hard to argue the timing sure seems off. Not to worry though because the line has since been shut down. Along with everything else in her professional career. All royal duties now!
14. The political side of everything is causing problems.
The UK government doesn’t want the couple to invite the Obamas to their wedding because it may offend President Trump, but seems Meghan and Harry are inviting them anyway, protocol be damned. Royal wedding or not, they should subscribe to the age-old wedding rule “whatever the bride wants, the bride gets,” and if she wants Michelle there, she should have Michelle.
15. Being a princess may not be what it’s all cracked up to be.
Recently, as part of her royal training, Markle was fake kidnapped so the Royal Army could practice rescuing her with live ammunition and everything. Makes you wonder what the honeymoon is going to be like.
