The Biebs and Gomez have been one of the most talked about celebrity couples since they first got together back in 2010. They're also probably one of the hardest celeb couples to keep up with. What started out as a cute young love story between two budding pop superstars has become an on-and-off relationship that's managed to raise more than a few eyebrows throughout its almost decade-long run. This includes the couple's most recent reconciliation last year and the rumors they've already called it quits yet again.
Of course, a relationship as popular and long as Jelena's has countless pieces of information about it, but there are some details that stand out as being particularly cringe-inducing. These are the strangest details about Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship (and multiple breakups).
1. Justin's manager set them up.
The love-struck teens were spotted together for the very first time in December 2010 walking arm-in-arm out of an IHOP (awwww). Neither Gomez nor JB would confirm their official relationship status until two months later. However, it seemed to have been a planned meeting as Gomez revealed this little bizarre tidbit about their first date, "I love Justin. When he first started to come over from Canada his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid."
2. A fan claimed Justin was the father of her child.
In 2011, a woman named Mariah Yeater claimed that JB was the father of her child. According to the Daily Mail, the woman reportedly met Bieber after one of his concerts. Bieber denied the claims, stating, “None of those allegations are true. It’s crazy because every night after the show I’ve gone right from the stage right to my car." The singer also asserted that he had never even met Yeater. The woman demanded a paternity lawsuit against JB, which was eventually dismissed.
Daily Mail also reported that Bieber would have only been 16 at the time, while Yeater was 19, meaning if the allegations were true, Yeater could be arrested for statutory rape.
3. Selena broke up with Justin over "trust issues."
After the couple had seemingly weathered the storm that came with JB's baby drama, it seemed as though they were a solid pair. However, in November of 2012, the couple broke up for the first time. "Selena broke up with Justin about a week ago. It's been a really challenging experience over the last year because of their crazy schedules," an insider told Us Weekly. "Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin."
The source also claimed that the couple had problems all along in their relationship, including the backlash Gomez often received from Bieber's fans. But their relationship was still not considered completely over. "They are [young] ... it changes from day to day. Right now it is a break and tomorrow it could be back on knowing them ... it's hard to say how they will end up," the source said. "Maybe she feels more serious about it this time. We'll see."

2014 was a rollercoaster ride for Jelena. The former couple continuously kept their fans guessing about whether or not they were back on.
Bieber also made the transition from his image as a good boy pop star crush to a bad boy with his numerous run-ins with the law. JB resisted arrest after a DUI and driving without a valid license. He was also accused of vandalism by his neighbors.
2014 was also the year of the infamous showdown between JB and Orlando Bloom. Sources say that it was started over a comment Bieber made that may have been directed towards Bloom's ex-wife, Miranda Kerr. However, Bloom was also seen hanging out with Gomez just a few months before the incident happened which many have speculated to also play into the altercation.
5. Their breakup allegedly sent Selena to rehab.
In 2014, Gomez checked into a rehab facility for two weeks. Speculation about why she was going into rehab centered mainly around Bieber and his influence on her. However, Gomez released a statement saying that her rehab stint had nothing to do with Bieber or any kind of substance abuse, but was solely for her own well-being. "It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
Gomez revealed in a later interview that the real reason she went to rehab was due to her lupus diagnosis.
6. Justin may have cheated on Selena.
Although The Bieb's relationship with Selena has definitely been his most publicized, it certainly has not been his only high-profile one.
One of Bieber's most notable relationships after Selena was with model Hailey Baldwin. The two shared many photos together on Instagram and in 2016, Bieber revealed in an interview that Baldwin was, "someone I really love. We spend a lot of time together.”
However, Bieber's relationship with model Sofia Richie is what really got Jelena fans fired up. In 2016, Bieber posted multiple photos of Richie on his Instagram which prompted a lot of negative comments from fans. JB immediately responded to his fans, saying that he would make his account private if the "hate" didn't stop and that real fans wouldn't put these comments on his photos.
However, the most surprising comment came from Gomez herself. "If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only," she wrote. "Don't be mad at your fans. They love you." And she didn't stop there. She then posted a collage of photos of Bieber with his fans, which eventually turned into a full-blown Instagram argument that ended with both accusing each other of cheating and Bieber deleting his Instagram completely.
7. Justin was the reason for the breakup between Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth.
In 2016, Selena allegedly struck up a short-lived romance with fellow singer Charlie Puth. Although the romance seemed cute at the time, Puth later revealed in an interview that it was anything but. "It was very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up." He insinuated that the reason for the relationship not working out was because Gomez had never gotten over Bieber. "It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in—what I was getting myself into."
While Puth didn't call Bieber out by name in the interview, he went on to curse Bieber out during a concert performance of his song "We Don't Talk Anymore," which he originally recorded with Gomez.

8. Selena broke up with The Weeknd for Justin.
Gomez and The Weeknd first started dating in January of 2017, one of her first long-lasting, high-profile relationships since her split with Bieber. However, after 10 months of dating, the couple broke things off. While a source told People that their breakup was due to conflicting schedules that made it hard for them to see each other, fans were suspicious because Gomez and Bieber were spotted together just a few days before her breakup with The Weeknd.
However, Gomez revealed to Billboard that there's no bad blood between her and The Weekend. "Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship," she said. "I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring, and that was pretty remarkable for me." She also said that when it comes to Bieber, she'll never stop caring about him. "I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away."
8. Justin may have been the reason for Selena Gomez's mother's recent hospitalization.
In the fall of 2017, Jelena fans were once again over the moon after the pair had seemingly gotten back together. However, it was far from a perfect reunion. The relationship once again quickly filled with turmoil.

Despite reports that Gomez and Bieber are not broken up, Bieber seems to have moved on with model Baskin Champion. The two met through Bieber's friend Patrick Schwarzenegger, who's dating Champion's sister. They attended a Craig David concert in March 2018 and she's even recently been seen leaving his house. "Justin seems very into Baskin and like they are very comfortable together," a source told E! News. "They are having fun and always laughing and flirting."
