25 Of Snoop Dogg's Wisest Quotes, Funny Memes & Unforgettable Tweets
Dropping it like its hot since '92.
Snoop Dogg has been a big name in music for a long time. He has come a long way from being discovered on the west coast by Dr. Dre in the early 90's.
Snoop Dogg has not only made his name in music but in a whole slew of different entertainment categories — from movies to television — and reinventing himself all in between. But really, who is Snoop Dogg?
Snoop Dogg was born as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. on October 20, 1971, in Long Beach California.
The nickname Snoop came from his mother, who thought he looked like Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoon.
At a young age, he got into trouble with the law and spent time in prison. He used music, rap and hip hop as a tool to find a way out of those hard times and to keep himself out of trouble.
He began to make music with his cousin Nate Dogg and friend Warren G. The tracks they produced together grabbed the attention of the one and only Dr. Dre.
One of Snoop's first gigs was on Dr. Dre's The Chronic in 1992. He had such an impressive performance that his career took off almost immediately. People began to notice the cool smooth guy with rap and lyrics that seemed to get people leaping out of their seats.
Snoop Dogg's first album made its way to the No.1 spot on the Billboard's hip-hop and top charts. He seemed to become famous almost overnight with hits like "Who Am I (What's My Name)" and "Gin and Juice".
Snoop's sound is unlike any other. He has an effortless charisma when he performs, and his lyrics are risque — but poetic. At the same time, he knows how to get a party started and keep it going without a lot of flash. A good number of his songs have become staples among the hip-hop and rap scene.
Snoop has branched out from music and has had a successful acting career. He has appeared in several films such as Starsky & Hutch, The Wash and Training Day. He also had success in television, appearing on Comedy Central — and even a show with Martha Stewart. (I can't even explain how obsessed I am with the Snoop and Martha partnership!)
Through all of this Snoop has been married to his high school sweetheart Shante Taylor since 1997. Although they have had some rocky times and even filed for divorce at one point they have managed to stay together through it all and renewed their vows four years after they almost split.
They have three children together, two sons and one daughter.
