Stand-up comedian and reality TV star Kathy Griffin is typically known for her hilarious wild and crazy antics.

But not many people are currently laughing about Kathy Griffin's recent photo shoot with dramatic photographer Tyler Shields.

Shields shot this photo of Kathy Griffin holding the fake decapitated and bloody head of President Donald Trump — and people are not responding to it well, especially First Lady Melania Trump.

According to an article in Breitbart, the First Lady released a statement on behalf of her family, in which she shared that their 11-year-old son, Barron "panicked" after seeing the photo while watching TV.

“As a mother, a wife, and a human being," Melania said, "that photo is very disturbing. When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it.”

President Trump, of course, had his own choice words to share via his personal favorite tool of communication, Twitter.

"Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"

Griffin is definitely feeling the heat after losing some major deals, including the termination of her decade-long contract with CNN to co-host their New Year's Eve Live special with Anderson Cooper.

Griffin has since apologized in this video she released on Twitter:

In the video, she states the following:

“I’m a comic. I cross the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue.”

Self-proclaimed provocateur and photographer Shields, on the other hand, is standing by their creative vision as a form of artistic expression.

In an interview with Buzzfeed News, Shields said:

"Trump is the social media president. ... He is the most polarizing president we've ever had. With any type of person like that, art is going to be made about them ... I like to make things and let people make up their own minds about it, but I understand with this that some people will praise it and some people will absolutely hate it."

It's fairly safe to say that while this won't likely end Griffin's career, it will certainly put a huge damper on it. Whether you love or hate President Trump, I think we all know this photo is grotesque and distasteful, and that Griffin should have known this was a bad idea from the beginning.

Of course, the President and the First Lady weren't the only ones with strong opinions on the matter, but while the photo has been perceived differently by many, most agree it was nothing if not disturbing.
