17 Life Lessons Even Muggles Should Learn From Harry Potter
Warning: This may contain spoilers if you've been living under a rock and know nothing about Harry Potter.
From the moment we first met Harry Potter, surrounded by the awful Dursleys, we were hooked.
Whether you're the fan who has only read the books once, or the fan who knows their Hogwarts House, wand type (thank you Pottermore!), and Patronus shape, Hogwarts will always be your home.
After all, we were there when Harry found the Stone, entered the Chamber, freed the prisoner, was chosen from the Goblet of Fire, became part of the Order, learned from the Half-Blood Prince and collected the Deathly Hallows and we would do it all again.
And through it all, we learned some very important life lessons that we can only hope will stay will us ... always.
1.Harry Potter taught us that there is always hope.
Weheartit
"Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times when one only remembers to turn on the light." - Albus Dumbledore
2.All good things come to those who wait.
Nothing you ever have to wait for will compare to waiting 12 years in Azkaban for justice for your friends' murders....we're serious (yes we went there).
3.Harry Potter taught us to own your scars.
Giphy
Harry's scar is what made him who he is and your scars are no different. Embrace them for they make you wicked (in a good way, we promise).
4.You should never judge someone by their looks.
Giphy
Muggle-born, Half-blood, Pure-blood, Muggle, Giant, Centaur or Werewolf: it does not matter. Never judge someone for what they are, rather who they are for they are not the same thing.
5.Don't be afraid to be weird and unique.
Giphy
Some people might call you weird (her nickname was Loony) but that doesn't stop Luna from being who she is or believing in what she believes in, nor should it stop us!
6.Love is the best weapon and protection.
Weheartit
The very basis of Harry's survival is based on Lily's love and there is literally nothing more important in life; nothing else that stand up to hate as much as love can.
7.We learned to fight for what you believe in.
Giphy
Sometimes it's fighting the Dark Lord and sometimes it means standing up to your friends to stop them from doing something they shouldn't be. Whatever it is, don't ever hesitate to stand up for the right thing.
8.Eating chocolate will solve everything.
Weheartit
Chocolate can help after a dementor attack and really, it can just heal everything. Lesson: always have chocolate with you. At all times.
9.Harry Potter teaches us that there is a time for everything.
Giphy
Taking pictures is awesome but maybe not when a threat has been written on the walls about a monster being released next to a petrified cat. Practically speaking, however, know that there are times you should take action and times you should let it go.
10.In life, you have to take some risks.
Giphy
If we never take risks, we'll never know what we're missing out on. From taking a totally cool adventure to finding love and asking someone to the Yule Ball, life is about taking risks!
11.Everyone has somewhere they truly belong.
Weheartit
Whether you are a brave Gryffindor, a loyal Hufflepuff, a wise Ravenclaw or a proud Slytherin, there is somewhere where you belong and are loved. Hogwarts will always be your home.
12.Sometimes you just need to relax, kick back and laugh.
Giphy
Which we're pretty sure is Fred & George's motto for life but it should also be our motto. They had the right idea when they opened a joke shop at the height of Voldemort's rise to power (again): sometimes we need laughter to combat the darkness.
13.Harry Potter taught us that it is our choices that define who we are.
Giphy
"We've all got light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that's who we really are." - Sirius Black
14.Friendship means always being there for each other.
Giphy
From flying cars into a tree together to bailing each other out of trouble to stopping the dark lord together — friends are always there to help you no matter how hard the task might be.
15.But sometimes we have to do things on our own.
Friends also know that you need to do some things on your own, even if they want to go with you. Like they may want to go with you to defeat your arch nemesis but they understand when you need your squad and when you have to face him yourself.
16.We learned that those we love never really leave us.
Weheartit
Death cannot stop love and the ones we have lost will always be in our hearts (no, we are not crying over the characters we lost...*sniffles*).
17.But most importantly, Harry Potter taught us to believe in magic.
Giphy
Magic can happen to anyone, anywhere as long as you believe in it. So don't hold back and don't lose hope.
The magic you want lives inside of you...you just need to believe in yourself.
