Ela Darling has accomplished so much in her professional life that most women would envy. At age 21 she obtained a master's degree in library science and a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology.

At 29, she's a porn star and co-founder of a virtual reality porn company called VRtube.xxx and is the secretary of the adult performer's advocacy group, she told Cosmopolitan.

After ending her marriage and a long run in girl/girl porn, Darling has established herself as a pansexual and ventured into boy/girl porn. Her career in virtual porn started because she was "into tech for a long time. I love emerging technologies."

Darling continues to explain her interests as a techy: "The first questions that usually come to mind are: How can I f*ck with this or how can people watch me f*ck with this? With virtual reality (VR) it was like, I want to make porn for this but I have no idea how."

Once Darling saw posts on Reddit about making VR porn, she said, "Sign me up. Fly me out." She ended up in Washington D.C., where she met and became a business partner to a 20-year-old college student and his friend.

After going over formalities, and reassuring her safety, Darling asked, "Where are we shooting, a studio?" Only to find out, "It was his dorm room!"

Darling further explains her experience and the way VR porn works: "It's shot in 180 degrees so no one could be in there. I thought they would be in there directing me, but they just set it up on the wall and walked out. I treated it like a webcam show where I was talking to the camera and being as genuine as I can be.

They loved it. He said it was the first time he ever watched porn and felt like he was connecting with another person. So I came back and I shot some more scenes with them. The other guy fell to the side and my [co-founder] asked me to join him in the company. By the end of the summer, he and I were equal partners. He just graduated with a degree in quantum physics."

So why opt for VR porn? One, it's not a video; it's a hologram, therefore the experience of watching porn is interactive. Another reason to get into VR porn is because it's cheap.

"You can buy hologram packages of me and different performers for $5 each," says Darling. If that's not even more incentive, VR has a dating simulator that allows you to go on virtual dates with the performers.

Darling explains simulated dates as a "video-game style where I talk to you and we're in a cafe, and there are four options and you can decide how to interact with me. It's a little silly and fun."

For Darling, porn has allowed her to explore her sexuality and assert confidence. It's also made her business savvy and successful before the age of 30. Furthermore, the VR world gave Darling the power of giving and taking during the sexual experience.
