Yesterday, Jon Stewart announced that he was retiring from hosting The Daily Show. Ever since 1999, Stewart has hosted the show, providing a hilarious spin on the nightly news show. The show has won countless Emmy awards, Peabody awards, and even a Grammy. Pretty impressive for a cable news show that isn't even a real news show (but is still probably more informative than actual news shows).

When he first took over the show, the world was a much different place. At first, he and his correspondents just provided silly versions of stories solely for entertainment. Everything changed when the September 11 attacks occurred. Stewart and his team started using the show to provide not just comedy, but also started calling out politicians and policies and gave the show a strong political angle.

Over the years, Stewart has elevated the show from a late night cable comedy show to the place where a lot of young people go to for actual news. Even though they were being silly, there was always a sense of truth behind the jokes. Now that Jon's retiring, it's time to take a look back and realize exactly why we're going to miss him so much.
