Marquel Martin Addresses Interracial Dating On 'The Bachelorette'
Exclusive! 'The Bachelorette' contestant also gives his opinion of Andi's rumored final two.
There's a lot that The Bachelorette fans already know about star Andi Dorfman. We know she loves her job as an assistant district attorney, loves the prospect of being in love, and loves the idea of someday having a family.
One thing we don't know much about, though, is her romantic history, particularly when it comes to interracial dating. Nor does Marquel Martin, who — as of episode 4 — is still standing in the competition.
"This is just from my experience personally, I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not sure if she's ever dated an African American," Martin said in a recent interview. "I think that's a very valid question and fair question just to ask, just because that's something society deals with every day and I've dealt with in the past in interracial relationships. It would just be something for my own confidence, and understanding where we both stand."
It's hard to say how much longer Marquel will continue to charm Andi. The two look adorable when they stand together, but as far as we’ve seen, that's really all they've done — no long talks about family, no flirty glances, no "I can't wait to get to know him better" from Andi. There was that one time he tried to teach her a chokehold; maybe that was flirting? For the sake of Marquel's future dates, we hope not.
Even worse for Marquel — and for the happiness of his huge Twitter fan base — his name is not coming up amid final two rumors.
(Spoiler alert!!!!)
Instead, Nick Viall and Josh Murray's names are splashed across Bachelorette spoilers as the two left fighting for a rose in this season's finale, sure to be held on the sandy beaches of a tropical locale. Andi does appear to be hitting it off with them, and even Marquel had nothing but nice things to say about the pair.
"As well as I know myself and my connection with Andi, they stand just as good a chance as I do," he said. "You know, I definitely hit it off with those two, for sure, just from a personality standpoint ... I have nothing but good things to say about those two."
Such the gentleman. Maybe if love never blooms with Andi, producers will come knocking on his door for The Bachelor. No, no, nevermind; we like him too much to see him eaten alive by some of the crazies that show up for that show!
