Johnson and Maynard met before she became The Bachelorette, but they didn't start dating until after her split from "winner" Jef Holm. She confirmed in an interview back in July 2013 that she was seeing someone she'd known for a long time, but didn't say who.

Maynard was so worried about the news of their relationship leaking to the press that she and Johnson actually told fellow parishioners that they were brother and sister. Kind of has a Jack-and-Meg-White vibe, right?
He's a romantic, but he's not into cliches.
Maynard revealed that Johnson popped the question not on New Year's Eve, but on January 4—probably to throw her off! And get this—he gave both Maynard and her eight-year-old daughter Ricki rings. For her part, Maynard received five diamond-studded bands and reveals the couple will wed in the near future. "We definitely are looking to get married sooner rather than later," she tells Us. "No point in waiting!"
