Colin Farrell's Secret Relationship With Elizabeth Taylor?
"She was the last romantic relationship I had," Colin Farrell confessed.
Hollywood lost a legend when Elizabeth Taylor died in 2011. But for notorious bad boy Colin Farrell, he lost more than an icon: He lost one of his greatest loves.
The 37-year-old star confessed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he and Taylor maintained a close, personal friendship—one that he regards as his last romantic relationship—until her death at age 79.
Farrell and Taylor's first encounter happened when he was in the hospital for the birth of his son Henry, now 4, and she was getting a stint in her heart. Farrell asked her team, "Will you tell her I said hello? She probably won't know who I am." He continued, "And they go, 'No, she knows who you are,' and I went 'Wow, cool. Well, tell her I said hello and I wish her the best,' and they said, 'Will do.'"
It gets even sweeter. "I got home a few days later with Henry and I was thinking about Elizabeth and how she was doing, and I called my publicist and I said, 'I bumped into some people of Elizabeth Taylor's, some friends of hers, could I send her some flowers?' And my publicist said, 'That's funny, because I'm looking at an orchid from Elizabeth Taylor for you!'"
The flowers led to a friendship, when a week later Farrell got their teams to arrange an in-person meeting. "That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of something really cool," he gushed. "I just adored her. She was a spectacular, spectacular woman."
As for the seven-time married superstar, Farrell admitted he'd fallen hard enough to tie the knot himself. "I wanted to be number eight but we ran out of road."
But don't get your heads in the gutter just yet: Farrell was quick to clarify that the relationship was mostly him projecting—and that it was never consummated!
