Troy Aikman Ends Ten-Year Marriage
Just days before the Super Bowl, Troy files for divorce.
According to NYDailyNews.com, Fox sportscaster Troy Aikman and his wife, Rhonda, are calling it quits after 10 years of marriage. The former Dallas Cowboys' quarterback has certaintly chosen an oddly busy time to make such an announcement, just days before the Super Bowl, especially since Troy appears to want to keep the details of his upcoming divorce as private as possible.
"This has been a difficult decision for Rhonda and me, but after 10 years of marriage we have decided to separate," he told the Dallas Morning News. "We remain deeply committed to our children and respectfully ask that you honor our family's privacy during this period of adjustment."
The children Troy alluded to are his two daughters, Jordan and Alexa. Rhonda also has a daughter from a previous marriage.
Though a decade of marital bliss seems almost unheard of in the celebrity relationship world, the split seems a bit surprising given Troy's family values. Back when he was still playing for the Cowboys, the Hall of Famer was known as "the most eligible bachelor to play in the NFL since Joe Willie Namath hung up his cleats." Nevertheless, apparently the young athlete said he would "rather be married with four kids," than live the life of a care-free womanizing bachelor (via Yahoo.com).
What woman wouldn't have tried to rope in a man like that? Troy and Rhonda, a former Cowboys' publicist, married in 2000. The first signs of a troubled marriage appeared in November when Rhonda bought a house in Dallas.
While Troy seemed to be a one-woman man 10 years ago, we wonder if he will use this opportunity to make up for lost opportunities and play the field, or will he be looking for Mrs. Aikman the second? A book describing Troy during his football years shows that he was guarded about the women he dated and feared they would use him for his money (it is not known if the couple has a pre-nup).
May we nominate Sandra Bullock, who just so happens to be coming out of a five-year marriage and who has dated Troy in the past? But please Troy, only if you are still the marriage-oriented man you were 10 years ago. Sandra's gone through enough.
