20 Reasons Henry Cavill Must Bring Christian Grey To Life
Why the "Man of Steel" was made to ravage Anastasia Steele.
Wake up your inner goddesses: The Fifty Shades of Grey movie is less than a year away. With a release date of August 1, 2014 announced and director Sam Taylor-Johnson selected, all that's left to do is, well, the important part—casting the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
While Ian Somerhalder has long been the fan favorite as Christian, we hear he's out of the running and that another man—a Man of Steel—is swiftly gaining ground.
Here's why we think smoldering, blue-eyed Brit Henry Cavill should get the gig.
This summer, Cavill stars as the latest Superman in Man of Steel. Rescuing Lois Lane from explosions, rescuing Anastasia with exploding chemistry ... 'nuff said.
As Superman, he brought in $116.6 million at the box office. Beat that, Somerhalder.
The Twittersphere blew up after seeing Cavill play Superman—with comments like: "Is this a Superman promo or a 50 Shades of Gray audition?"
Clearly, the Man of Steel was made to sexually ignite Anastasia Steele, duh.
Somerhalder could use a few more big-screen gigs under his belt before nabbing the Christian role. His only major movie role was in 2002 ...
... which is exactly why rumor has it that Somerhalder is officially out of the running.
Another "duh" reason: Cavill's newly single, having just broken up with girlfriend Kaley Cuoco of Big Bang Theory fame. Read: You have a chance with him.
Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James has always been vocal in her support for Henry—and she's hinted that she has a dream man picked out for the Christian role.
It doesn't hurt that Cavill himself admitted that with the right director and script, he'd be up for it.
It's his time: Esquire dubbed Cavill the Unluckiest Man in Hollywood because he's lost out on playing James Bond to Russell Crowe and Edward Cullen to Robert Pattinson. It's time to get lucky.
Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series, originally rooted for Cavill to play Edward Cullen—and, as we all know, Fifty Shades was born as Twilight fan fiction.
In fact, Pattinson—another rumored contender for the Christian Grey role—might not be able to pull off some of those NC-17 scenes ...
In a recent ad, Cavill swoops in on a helicopter to pick up a lady. Think back to the first book ... Christian first whisks Anastasia away on a what? Yup, that's right.
Um, and then they do this.
Clearly, ole Henry's no stranger to on-screen erotica, as evidenced by The Tudors.
Speaking of The Tudors, women have a thing for Brits ... and for seeing them naked.
If you ever doubted his prowess with various Red Room "toys," see The Immortals.
But he's also got a wicked sense of humor, which anyone who recreationally wields a riding crop should ...
And if you're still not convinced, just look at these recruitment ads for the National Guard.
