Loss is one of the worst feelings.

That moment when you realize something precious to you is missing creates a sense of panic.

You start looking everywhere for it. Where could it be?

You can feel desperate to find what you lost, especially if it’s something that holds a lot of value for you.

Of course, not everything you lose is an item of significance.

Sometimes it’s as simple as accidentally putting your keys in the fridge, or filing a document under the wrong category. But no matter what it is, no one wants to lose things.

That goes for people too. The fear that crosses someone’s face when their child is missing is unparalleled. We don’t want to lose anyone close to us.

It’s why we cry at funerals. It’s like a part of us has been taken. The people we know make us who we are, after all.

This also applies to relationships. Along with friends and family, the people we choose to get close and intimate with matter a lot to us.

So when the day of the breakup is upon you, it’s also why it hurts so much. You get this feeling of knowing that you don’t want to lose them.

But why is that? Is there a deeper reason other than simply not wanting to lose that person? If you look at the stars, you may find some sort of answer.
