Who Is Thiago Ventura? New Details On The Comic From 'Comedians Of The World' On Netflix
He's from Brazil.
Comedians of the World on Netflix has given viewers a sense of what life is like in different regions of the globe. And with 47 comics from 13 areas — including the Middle East, France, Australia, India, the UK, and more — it’s no wonder people are thoroughly enjoying laughing on their couches. But for those who want to see comics from countries where English isn’t the first language, Netflix luckily has subtitles available for all routines!
And one comedian who comes from a country like this is Thiago Ventura. From Brazil, Ventura is one of the biggest names in stand-up right now, using observation and storytelling to give his audience a taste of his childhood, friends, relationship with his mother, and his decision to pursue comedy instead of a career in banking. Once you watch his routine, you’ll understand.
But in the meantime, just whois Thiago Ventura? Here are a few details to know about his personal life and how he got his start in comedy.
1. He’s Brazilian.
Like many of the comics featured in this series, Ventura is from a non-English-speaking country. He’s from Taboão da Serra, located in Greater São Paulo, Brazil.
2. He went to school.
Before becoming a full-time stand-up comedian, Ventura was a trained administrator and was pursuing a career in banking. But he also studied theater at the Macunaíma School Theater and did theatrical improvisation workshops with Professor Rhena de Faria do Jogando no Quintal.
3. He’s been doing stand-up since 2010.
Since getting his start, he’s traveled to comedy festivals throughout Brazil, including Virada Cultural Paulista in 2013 and 2014. He’s also traveled to Japan, the United States, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, Holland, England and France. He was a participant in the first Stand Up Comedy contest in Brazil, one of the biggest comedy events in the country.
When asked to talk about his crowd, Ventura mentioned that the first time he did a routine, the audience was made of senior citizens. “I came in talking bitchy and no one laughed. That day, I decided to stop doing stand-up,” he said.
But after studying videos from comics like Rafinha Bastos and Fábio Porchat, he found the confidence to continue. And now, he does shows in Brazil year-round: “I’ve already done seven shows a day, 17 sessions a week.”
4. He’s been on television.
He’s been featured on multiple programs, including Domingão do Faustão, Agora é Tarde, The Noite con Danilo Gentili, the Raul Gil Program, Night is a Child, Stand Up Republic, and Diario de Um Detento Do Barulho.
