Tom Carper has been a U.S. Senator from Delaware since 2001, as a member of the Democratic Party. Before winning his seat, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 10 years, and before that he was the Governor of Delaware. Carper is also a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War, and eventually retiring with the rank of Captain.
He’s currently a ranking member of multiple committees, include the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

The couple married in 1985 on New Year’s Eve, tying the knot just after midnight!
2. She is his second wife.
Carper was married to Diane Beverly Isaacs, the former Miss Delaware, from 1978 to 1983. He admitted in a 1998 interview that he had hit his then-wife; Isaacs, in a New York Post article, said that Carper hit her “so hard he gave her a black eye” and that his stepchildren “were slapped around and bruised... for doing such things as leaving the family dog on the bed.”
3. They have two children.
They are parents to two sons, Christopher and Benjamin. Carper is the former stepfather of his ex-wife’s children from a previous relationship.
4. They are Presbyterians.
The family belongs to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE. Carper is one of only 16 Senators to practice this religion.
5. She has stock in pharmaceuticals.
Though Carper vowed to fight the opioid epidemic, his wife apparently owns over $185,000 worth of stock in five pharmaceutical companies. Back in May, Stacy purchased between $1,000 and $15,000 worth of stock in CVS Health. She also owns stock in Abbott Laboratories, “the nation’s second-largest opioid distributor,” as well as stock in opioid producer Pfizer.
