JUST IN: Straight Girls Seeking Female Friendships, Sex Included
A new breed of female friendships gives new meaning to "friends with benefits."
When you're going through Craiglist ads, you will find some interesting things — people offering odd jobs, trying to sell furniture, and others looking for sexual partners.
You may assume most of these Craigslist users are men, but science has found there are women in relationships with men looking for another to become their friend with benefits.
Say what?
Chelsea Reynolds, a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Communication, looked into this trend, says Cosmopolitan. She analyzed 400 ads on Craigslist in the "Women Seeking Women" section, from 10 different cities with heterosexual posters.
What did she find?
"It's a huge phenomenon," Reynolds says.
Hundreds of thousands of ads from women looking for other women to enjoy things like shopping, as well as getting frisky in bed, are posted in a year. Many of them prefer a "femme" woman and state that their husbands or boyfriend won't know or join them.
So, can these ladies really call themselves straight?
"That doesn't necessarily make you gay," Reynolds says. She is also a woman in a relationship with a man, but is also attracted to women. "The way I've explained it to my partner is 'I'm super into you. I love having sex with you. But at the same time, there's one thing that you don't have, which is a vagina.'"
Some people's sexuality is just more fluid than others, which is fine. But the cheating definitely has us worried.
