Matt Bomer Responds To 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Movie Snub!
Is Matt Bomer as appalled as fans with the 'Fifty Shades' casting decision?
Even though news that Charlie Hunnam will play Christian Grey in the upcoming, and already infamous, Fifty Shades of Grey movie has been out for almost a week, people are still not accepting it.
Far from it. On Thursday, 40,000 fans had already signed a petition posted to Change.org. It reads:
"Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING."
Wow. The masses have spoken and they are really not pleased with the casting of Charlie Hunnam (and Dakota Johnson, but more Hunnam). After all, Matt Bomer was one of the first names tossed around when the book soared to popularity and the film adaptation was in pre-pre-pre-development (essentially a zygote).
And the film would have been a major boost for Bomer's career. Though he plays the uber sexy lead on White Collar, he's only had small supportive roles on the big screen (he literally had two lines in Magic Mike). This would have propelled him to A-list stardom and made him a household name.
But ever the class act, Bomer was very gracious when he asked about the petition. He told ET Online, "I'm so grateful for the fans and touched. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota."
Well, it doesn't sound like he'll snub the film, but we bet he won't be first in line to buy a ticket, either. As the film's producer Dana Brunetti explained on Twitter, "There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc. So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."
Something tells us the casting won't hurt ticket sales in the slightest.
Did producers get it wrong? Is Matt Bomer the better Christian Grey? Give us your opinion!
