3 Ways Technology Can Help Beat Your Relationship Rut
Itching to do something other than dinner and a movie? Get inspired with these 3 relationship ideas.
As someone who's in a new relationship, I'm a firm believer in the so-called "honeymoon stage": when every date feels like the first, every kiss gives you butterflies and everything seems perfect. But I've been warned that life after the honeymoon stage isn't always a picnic, especially when it comes to keeping things creative. You know — when movie dates become old hat, you've gone to all your favorite restaurants multiple times, and you find yourself staying in more than going out.
While I'm not yet at that "rut" stage in my relationship, I know many couples who are. Luckily, there are resources available to help long-term couples keep things new.
Pinterest. Most use Pinterest for recipes, future wedding planning and fitness inspiration, but there's a lot more to be gained from it. If you're an avid user, you've likely stumbled upon one of its more popular pins — the date jar. Here's how it works: Couples write ideas for dates on Popsicle sticks (the artistically inclined can opt to color the sticks) and stuff them into a mason jar. When at a loss for what to do, pull out a stick and do whatever it says; anything from "Bed & Breakfast" to "Jet Ski Rentals" to whatever adventure tickles your fancy.
Dating websites — for couples. Some cities have dating websites specifically for inspiring couples to try new things. For example, PearHaven, a site for those in long-term relationships in the Austin, TX area. Anyone who registers with the site can share ideas for dates; anything from new dining hot spots worth trying to the best places for a moonlit stroll. For those not lucky enough to live in Austin, "normal" dating sites like HowAboutWe can be useful even if you're attached. Users on HowAboutWe propose date ideas ("How About We… Throw back a few beers at the Comedy Cellar, then laugh at our own bad jokes?")
YourTango! Websites likes ours constantly post photo galleries with date ideas. Combine these ideas with your knowledge of your area and boom! Total date inspiration.
