walking together is always a good way to connect. and when my SO was out of work we made sure we spent time together away from everyone else.

Jobs are also the means by which people fulfill their dreams for the future. When that fails its like your dreams fail. I know this sounds melodramatic but its less about the relationship and more about the person feeling fully realized.
